CCD Barcode Scanners & Readers:
A CCD barcode reader is point and shoot!
CCD scanners are available with both USB and keyboard wedge connections. USB scanners will work on any computer with a USB port. Typically no drivers or software installation is required. Keyboard wedge scanners connect in between your keyboard and your computer. No software installation is required. Most wedge scanners are for IBM PCs only but there are some Mac keyboard wedge scanners available. As keyboard wedge scanners plug into the keyboard port of your computer, they may not work with some laptops.
Scanning is simple. Just aim the scanner at the bar code and press the button. The scanner provides both audible and visual indicators of a successful scan.
This is my favorite type of bar code reader. There is no physical contact between the book and the bar code reader so there is no danger of damaging or scoring the cover. They are accurate and reliable.
Compared to laser scanners, CCD barcode scanners are extremely durable and require less maintenance. CCD scanners consume little power and work under most lighting conditions. The CCD barcode scanners have built-in decoders and can auto-discriminate several bar code symbologies. They receive their power from the USB port or PC keyboard so no external power supply is required.
